Applications are now being accepted for the 2018-2019 school year.
The Wee Threes Program is for children who turn three between September 1st and December 31st.
The Primary Program is for children ages 3-6 (preschool - kindergarten).
The Application Process
Step 1: Plan a visit
We strongly recommend attending our open house and scheduling at least one visit to the school before applying. The Planning Your Visit
page will help you prepare.
Step 2: Submit an application
Complete an application and return it to the office along with a non-refundable $50 application fee. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis throughout the year. A link to the Application form is available here.
Step 3: Applicant Visits
Beginning in January we will contact students from whom we have received applications and schedule them for a visit with our teachers. Visits will be scheduled on a weekday afternoon between 1:45-2:15. Notification of acceptance status will be mailed shortly after your child's visit. We will continue this process as applications are received. Once all openings have been filled students will be placed in a waiting pool. Children in the waiting pool will be contacted for visits if/when an opening becomes available.
Step 4: Send in enrollment deposit
Upon notification of acceptance, an enrollment deposit must be submitted to secure your child’s spot. Families who do not submit their deposit by the stipulated date forfeit that spot. Enrollment deposits are non-refundable.
Step 5: Classroom assignments
Parents will be notified of student's classroom assignment over the summer.
Timeline for Admission
Applications accepted on an on-going basis
Notification of acceptance begins/enrollment deposits due (continues until all spots have been filled)
Summer:Accepted students receive notification of classroom placement (teacher's name)
Primary Program Requirements
Before you apply, it is important to know these things about the Primary Program:
Optimally the Primary Program is a three-year program and students are expected to stay for the entire three-year cycle. Students who leave before the end of their three-year cycle or who begin as a four or five year old may not receive the full benefit of the program.
We do not accept students who are looking for just a one-year program.
Our school requires that all students be independent in toileting before beginning at the OSMS (unless due to a medically documented condition).
Our vision is to develop each child's full potential as collaborative and self-directed learners by providing an academically excellent, interdisciplinary Montessori experience in partnership with parents that nurtures each child's intellectual curiosity, connection with the natural world, academic accomplishment and social and emotional growth as they become engaged citizens of the world.
The Ocean State Montessori School fosters independence, self-esteem, and a lifelong love of learning by providing an academically excellent and nurturing Montessori environment for children in preschool through sixth grade.
