Being Thankful
Our primary students have created a beautiful tree of thankfulness. Each leaf on the tree contains a statement of what a student is thankful for. Their responses are poignant, thoughtful, funny and endearing! If you have a few moments you should stop by to check out the tree. It is hanging in the hallway between Betsy’s and Amy’s classrooms. The elementary students will be adding their thoughts/leaves this week.
Looking at the tree got me thinking about what I would write if I were to create a leaf. I realized I have many things for which I am thankful and while I won’t list them all here the one I do want to mention is OSMS.
I first became affiliated with OSMS in 1991 when I was looking for a preschool for my oldest son. I had looked at several other schools and nothing could compare to the calm, engaging, warm environment I observed when I first visited OSMS. I remember my absolute delight when the acceptance letter arrived in the mail!
When my oldest son was in Kindergarten, my younger son entered as a three year old and it was in November of that year that I became the “interim director”. I was supposed to fill in for just the remainder of the school year so a search committee could be formed and a “proper” director hired. Needless to say, my “interim” appointment lasted just a little bit longer than expected! My boys each stayed through Kindergarten (we did not have an elementary program then) but my daughter was able to attend for lower and upper elementary.
OSMS has been my family’s education and work “home” for years. I am thankful that my mother-in-law suggested I check out Montessori schools when I began my search for a preschool way back when. I am thankful to be a part of such an amazing school community. I am thankful for my truly dedicated staff who are so talented at what they do and who are always willing to go above and beyond. I am thankful for all the students (and their parents) who have attended OSMS over the years. And I am thankful to have a job that I can honestly say I love!
