Past and Future meld beautifully
When I arrived at school this morning Ms. Courtney asked me to come into her room. I could tell by the excitement on her face that is was for something good… and I was right! Today marked the first lesson in the Upper El classroom using our new SmartBoard technology. Courtney had a math lesson up on the Board all set to go. When her students arrived they were equally as excited to see the new technology in action. I know that many great lessons are ahead in the Upper El classroom!
As I was admiring the SmartBoard I noticed that set up just to its right was the Upper El loom, with works in progress. It struck me then how our school successfully balances the old and the new. We’ve managed to combine the beauty, simplicity and genius of the Montessori materials and practical life activities (such as a loom) with cutting-edge technology. I think this balance epitomizes our school. There’s a desire and willingness to embrace new technologies and meld them into our daily OSMS life without sacrificing that which makes us truly special—our respect for and adherence to the Montessori philosophy.
